childhood

2015_06_11_4_WEBI went North on the 10th. Had to shoot some grad photography, and took Aerie back to the lands. I did a mini-promo shoot while I was there, and Aerie and me and my younger cousin Jaydon climbed into the now-very-low dam/river. And Aerie kicked off her shoes, “fished” with a stick, climbed over rocks and chased frogs.

And it was so good to see.

I have her placed in dance and swim and music and gymnastics, and I am so happy to give her that opportunity. But there is also something magical in just being able to play, to explore, to discover the world round you without worrying about people on the streets, about getting your kid snatched, about someone trying to hurt your child. I found that I could breathe so much easier letting her climb rocks taller then she, and watching her jump off. I wasn’t worried. If she got hurt, we could fix it. If she fell, I would kiss the boo-boo. In the city, my fears are hella bigger than that.

It was good of both of us to play without worry.
